Depth of Resolution

Relationships are never easy but when one of you is a war photographer and the other is an SAS team leader, everything gets doubly complicated.

In order to be with Sarah, Rob has put his operational career on hold and has remained at Hereford on the training wing. He misses the action and it’s started to make him stir-crazy and so, when Sarah announces that she’d heading back to Afghanistan and to the East Anglians, he’s not best pleased.

Discussions become arguments and with each of them as stubborn as the other, the relationship hits the rocks. Breaking up is not what either of them really want, but neither is prepared to compromise and so, they part acrimoniously.

As Sarah flies out, Rob demands to be put on active service again and is rewarded with a joint mission with the Yanks to hunt for the biggest fish of them all – the infamous Ali Mazari.

Meanwhile, Sarah is right on the front line of the conflict. She’s loving it, but as the dangers increase, the East Anglian Commander orders her to return to the UK. However, in her usual bullish fashion, she wants one last opportunity to get the best shots.

And that’s when it all goes sideways.

As time goes on, it becomes clear that the only person who can save her is Rob.

The question is: will he obey his orders and stay on mission or put his anger at her to one side and once again, risk everything to save her?

But what Rob doesn’t realise is that there are three sides to the story: the hunter, the hunted and the bait.

Resolution sees a return to the full-on action of Exposure but writing it was at times difficult. The reason was that there is a lot of Special Forces action, all of which is authentic. I have great advisers, but when I started working with them, they made it clear that I couldn't use anything that was militarily-sensitive. The challenge, therefore, was to write it in such a way that it was thrilling but didn’t compromise their positions.

I’m incredibly indebted to them and, despite the spate of books and TV programmes about the SAS recently, the MoD are still very quick to prosecute operatives who they feel are breaking the Official Secrets Act!

I hope I pulled it off and, so far, the MoD haven’t come knocking at my door – so finger’s crossed, I’ve got away with it!

Despite the challenges, this is my favourite book of the trilogy – not least of which because all the characters I love are in it at the same time.

Best
