Life for Emma Summers has settled into a dull, monotonous rut. Once, she used to dream of being a writer and even managed to get her first novel published, but that is now in the past.
All that lies ahead of her is a mundane existence of cooking, cleaning, washing and caring for her ungrateful husband, Phil and teenage daughter, Lucy.
She has resigned herself to her fate. Dreams are for young, naïve people. Reality is different, especially as she suffers from anxiety and depression – a side effect of a previous car crash which nearly killed her.
When Lucy pesters her to get tickets to see the UK’s leading Street Dance Group as her thirteenth birthday present, Emma reluctantly agrees.
And that’s the moment when her life changes…

Dance to a Different Tune
Dance to a Different Tune is, as you can tell, a little different from my first books!
There are many authors who stick to one genre. Whilst I can appreciate the logic in it, there are others, like me, who prefer to have some variety. Why? Because we write for pleasure and this book is my guiltiest of pleasures.
I loved every single second of writing it and completed the first full draft in just 8 weeks. I was obsessed by it – as my poor family will testify to – and when I’d finished it, I was quite bereft. I’d fallen in love with the characters almost more than my first ones and didn’t want their story to end.

(I might just have to revisit them!)
I hope you enjoy it too. It’s a love story in essence, but there are deeper themes which echo books such as Eat, Pray, Love and I hope it inspires some people to dare to dream again.
Whether you love it or not, it would be great to hear from you. There’s nothing better than having feedback!
Best,
Alex
